Mark Tavelli is director of Engineering Services for Washington Closure Hanford. He has more than thirty years of experience in the engineering, procurement and construction business, including twenty-five years managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams and ten years directing engineering operations for environmental and nuclear waste remediation, mining/minerals processing, and materials handling projects.
Tavelli started his career as an electrical engineer with Fluor Engineers and Constructors in Irvine, California, in 1975. He spent two years with Ford Bacon in Davis, Utah, before moving to Boise, Idaho, with Morrison-Knudsen in 1979. He has remained with Morrison-Knudsen through its purchase by Washington Group International and most recently by the URS Corporation.
He gained his experience with the company by serving in roles of increasing responsibility, including chief engineer, director of engineering, western regional manager for federal projects, and project general manager for nuclear projects in the United Kingdom.
Tavelli earned his BA degree in electrical engineering in 1975 at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. He has earned professional engineer licenses in nine states and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Engineering Management Society.
