CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Company is the U.S. Department of Energy’s contractor responsible for the safe environmental cleanup of the Central Plateau of the Hanford Site. The Plateau Remediation Contract is a $4.5 billion, 10-year project that is paving the way for closure of the Hanford Site and focused on reducing risks to workers, the public, and the environment while at the same time protecting the Columbia River.

CH2M HILL’s scope includes:

  • Deactivation, decontamination, decommissioning, and demolition of 1,442 facilities and structures including two reactors
  • Remediation of six burial grounds and 11 groundwater systems
  • Treatment of more than 40 cubic meters of sludge
  • Disposition of 6,200 cubic meters of transuranic waste, 800 spent nuclear fuel containers, and 2,100 metric tons of spent nuclear fuel

CH2M HILL’s scope also includes non-tank farm waste disposal activities; groundwater monitoring and remediation; facility and waste site characterization, surveillance and maintenance, regulatory document preparation, and remediation. CH2M HILL is also accelerating cleanup and expanding or maintaining its workforce with support of economic stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
